What People Are Saying

“My son, Sam, was a patient of Miss Karyl in the early 2000's. He is all grown up now and is graduating from High School. As someone we all credit with being a hugely positive influence on Sam, we would like to make sure she gets one of his graduation announcements. We are so very grateful for all she has done for our family and what a blessing she was when we were new to Asperger’s and really struggling to figure everything out. Her patience, guidance, and teaching helped set us on the right path for our son to achieve great things. Thank you for everything.”

“Shortly after birth, Josh suffered a brain bleed that required extensive surgery and a 16 week stay in the hospital. Due to the horrific brain bleed, Josh had no use of the right side of his body and his ability to make sounds was limited. He was officially diagnosed with Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy.

Just six weeks after Josh left the hospital, he was introduced to the therapy team at A Step Ahead Pediatric Therapy. He has since received early intervention services for physical, occupational and speech therapy that assist him in gaining the skills that he needs to be a typical three-year-old boy. Josh receives services from ASAPT both in home and at his daycare and has made tremendous progress in his rehabilitation.

In just a year, Josh learned to sit up on his own and he can now independently move around his home, walk on his own, climb steps, play on the playground and play with his classmates.”

At age three, Max began to gain weight from eating only pretzels, chicken nuggets, hot dogs and crunchy unhealthy snacks. Even though Max was growing at a proper rate, his pediatrician expressed worry and referred him to ASAPT. After initial evaluation, it was determined that Max could not tolerate different foods in his mouth due to their feel, taste and smell, which made him a great candidate for the picky eaters program at ASAPT.

After completing the program and with excellent follow through from his parents, Max expanded his diet from five unhealthy food choices to more than 25 different food choices and has learned ways to attempt new foods without becoming upset.

Twin girls Kylie and Elise were able to understand and point out to their parents almost everything that was asked of them but their ability to be understood when speaking was a different story. "We couldn’t understand them when they talked to us and it was beginning to affect their personalities," said Kylie and Elise’s mom. "They became so frustrated that they began to not communicate with us at all."

After a year of intense speech therapy, both as siblings and as individuals, the girls began to repeat sounds and words and even initiate conversation with other children at school. Kylie and Elise still come to ASAPT for monthly check ups and they continue to make progress toward their speech goals.
